But what can you expect from this?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Below you will read:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">what diagnostics is;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">who you will deal with during this process;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">and what you can expect as a parent when you sign your child up for an autism assessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is diagnostics?<\/h2>\n<p>Diagnostics can identify your child's stronger and weaker areas of development. You and your child have conversations with specialists and assessments are done. The goal is to ultimately create a treatment plan tailored to your child.<\/p>\n<h2>Who are the people involved in the assessment?<\/h2>\n<p>As your child goes in for an autism assessment, you will meet with several specialists. For example, you will meet with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">a child and adolescent psychiatrist or clinical psychologist;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">a gz psychologist;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">other behavioural scientists, such as a remedial educationalist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It might be the case that you also meet with other specialists. They will then share their knowledge. Think for example of a paediatrician, paediatric neurologist, speech therapist or physiotherapist. These specialists work in a team at organisations that know a lot about developmental and behavioural problems (such as ASD) in young children.<\/p>\n<p>Often these organisations are connected <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autismejongekind.nl\/en\/\">to the Landelijk Expertisenetwerk Autisme Jonge Kind (AJK)<\/a>. This means that they all conduct the assessment and counselling\/treatment in much the same way. They work on the basis of the latest guidelines and scientific insights.<\/p>\n<p>There are also organisations that are not (yet) connected with the AJK, but that can conduct good diagnostic assessments and\/or can offer treatment\/counselling.
